Painting created for Artists' House
Lorraine Riesenbach, owner of Artists' House Gallery asked gallery artists to create one or two pieces in celebration of the current show at the Philadelphia Art Museum "Cezanne and Beyond". The works had to be inspired by Cezanne or his followers. I painted a still life, and a figurative piece. I set up the still life after looking at many Cezanne still lifes. I have to admit I have always disliked Cezanne intensely. However, after close examination of the still lifes, I fell in love with them, mainly the compostion and color. I also love the way he incorporates pattern into his work. The second piece is my favorite model Lauren. It is done after "The Italian girl Resting On Her Elbow". I loved the feel of this pose and knew Lauren was the perfect model, she also happens to be Italian. The show at Artists' House runs the month of March.
